MASTER PLAN
St. Joseph High School, Santa Maria

The Master Plan for Saint Joseph High School was formulated through a circular feedback process. Input obtained from school administration, faculty, and the community- coupled with the application of the Campus Planning and Design Standards- resulted in a conceptual design solutions. Most goals can be met through a reorganization of existing buildings resources, with a comparatively modest amount of area increase as well as the proposal of two major buildings, the Chapel and Theology Center and the Fine Arts Theater building with Art Labs.
The Saint Joseph Master Plan Committee, Faculty, Parents and Student’s input and application of DS-3 (Functional Clusters Standard) resulted in a more intelligible organization of functional relationships throughout the campus. This results in distinct building clusters (campus centers) for Theology, Fine Arts and Staff use. The Chapel and Theology Center will serve as the school’s main focal point. The main entrance to the Chapel is adjacent to the senior lawn, currently the center of the campus. The new Fine Arts Theater is also readily accessible from this lawn. To create additional green open spaces, two new student centers/ hubs are proposed, one on each side of the theater’s main entrance. A green open space is also proposed adjacent to the Theology classrooms, next to the elevator tower, this will serve as a buffer to the parking lot and creates a student hub as well.
