Monte Vista Elementary School

Santa Barbara, CA

What once was a forgotten corner of campus has been reimagined as a permanent, high-performance building, replacing three aging portables and a modular classroom. Monte Vista Elementary School is ready to welcome students for a new school year with a revitalized space for learning.

This southeast section of campus now completes the existing classroom quad and enhances the school’s long-term site plan. The new building includes 1,100-square-foot classrooms with high ceilings for improved acoustics, programmable energy-efficient lighting, and mechanical systems with cooling. Each classroom is equipped with integrated cabinetry and sinks to support daily learning needs.

Beyond the interiors, the project introduced three outdoor classrooms with sinks and trellis shade structures, creating flexible, functional learning environments that invite student engagement. As part of the scope, an ADA-accessible pathway was added to improve campus circulation and connectivity.
